Seems like wherever I am these days, I see folks riding scooters. It is after all, cheap transportation in a time when we are paying $3.70 per gallon of gas. There are a few things about scooter riders that stand out from those on motorcycles. I see numerous scooter riders in flip flops, sandals, or even barefoot. Usually wearing a t-shirt and shorts, and almost always not wearing a helmet. I think a lot of people who ride scooters treat them more like toys because they are so easy to hop on and go, it just doesn’t seem like a real vehicle. The problem is when you get on the same road with 4000 lb cars and 10,000 lb trucks, the game has changed. It isn’t a toy anymore and you stand to get seriously injured if you are not paying attention to what you are doing. Don’t get me wrong, I have nothing against scooters or people who ride them, I just would like folks who ride them, to realize that there are certain precautions that should be taken prior to operating one.
